Lesson 5: Site Layout, Boxed vs Wide | Modern Web Development Certificate
In this lesson for the P.L.E.M. Academy Modern Web Development Certificate, students continue exploring the WordPress Customizer settings inside the Customizr Pro theme.
This lesson focuses on the site layout setting and explains the difference between a boxed layout and a wide layout.
Students learn how to navigate:
Appearance → Customize → Global Settings → Site Layout
The boxed layout keeps the website slightly contained within visible page margins, giving the site a cleaner framed appearance. The wide layout stretches the main website structure closer to the edges of the browser window.
Jonathan explains that students probably do not need to change this setting immediately, but they should understand what it does because the first month of the certificate program is about becoming familiar with every major theme customization option.
This lesson explains how to:
- Find the site layout settings inside the WordPress Customizer
- Compare boxed and wide layouts
- Understand how margins affect website appearance
- Preview layout changes before saving
- Recognize how accordion content may require separate code adjustments
- Build familiarity with theme customization settings
Jonathan also explains that changing the global layout does not automatically stretch every embedded accordion or lesson section. Some content width settings may still need to be adjusted inside the HTML or accordion code itself.
For his own site, Jonathan chooses the boxed layout because the visible margins give the page a cleaner and more professional appearance.
This lesson is part of month one of the Modern Web Development Certificate included within the P.L.E.M. Academy Research Position and Internship Program.
