Lesson 4: Site Identity, Logo, Title, Tagline, and Favicon | Modern Web Development Certificate

In this lesson for the P.L.E.M. Academy Modern Web Development Certificate, students continue customizing their professional WordPress websites by configuring the site identity settings inside the Customizr Pro theme.

Jonathan David walks students through how to configure:

  • Website logos
  • Favicons and site icons
  • Website titles
  • Professional taglines
  • Transparent PNG images
  • Header positioning and logo alignment
  • Typography and branding consistency

This lesson focuses heavily on the visual branding and professional appearance of the student’s STEM website portfolio.

Students learn how to navigate:

Appearance → Customize

and begin experimenting with the different customization settings inside the WordPress theme system.

Jonathan explains that students should take time during month one of the certificate program to slowly go through each customization setting individually and familiarize themselves with how professional websites are built.

The lesson also demonstrates:

  • Using Canva to create logos and transparent images
  • Choosing square PNG images for branding
  • Creating favicon icons
  • Adjusting title and tagline placement
  • Switching between desktop and mobile layouts
  • Understanding responsive website behavior

Students are encouraged to experiment with layouts while learning how responsive WordPress themes automatically reorganize content depending on screen size.

Jonathan also explains how the student’s website will eventually host:

  • Professional resumes
  • Research projects
  • Educational articles
  • Textbooks
  • Scientific communication projects
  • Portfolio material

The overall goal of the P.L.E.M. Academy system is to gradually help students build long term professional websites while simultaneously developing communication skills, technical writing abilities, and resume focused experience.

This lesson is part of the Modern Web Development Certificate included within the P.L.E.M. Academy Research Position and Internship Program.
