- How the research position doubles as practical training for resumes and professional growth
Introduction
This post gives a direct look at the book writing process happening inside PLEM Academy right now. Rather than simply talking about the finished product, it shows what the project looks like while it is still being built: lessons in progress, notation comparisons, long problem breakdowns, review cycles, typos being corrected, and the larger system slowly taking shape volume by volume.
The central message is that students are not just watching a finished course. They are being invited to engage with a living writing project and learn how mathematical print, notation, editing, and structured reasoning really work from the inside.
Main Ideas
1. The book is being built one lesson at a time
The project is described as an active work in progress. New lessons are added gradually, volume by volume, while the website, the books, and the supporting material continue to grow together.
2. The focus is on notation, structure, and precision
A big part of the project is showing students how different textbooks express similar ideas in different ways. The point is not just to get an answer. The point is to understand symbols, notation changes, writing conventions, and the exact structure of mathematical communication.
3. Students can take part in the review process
Members are encouraged to look through completed lessons, watch for typos or notation issues, and offer corrections or suggestions. That participation is part of how students can earn credit in the finished books.
4. The lessons are meant to teach how to think systematically
The overall approach is not built around memorizing quick tricks. It is built around breaking problems into components, understanding how symbols fit together, and developing the kind of algorithmic thinking that carries across books and courses.
5. The research position is also resume training
Another major point is that this work is practical. Students are not only learning mathematics. They are also learning tools, formatting, web workflows, and writing habits that can strengthen their future applications for jobs, research roles, and technical work.
Post Summary
This video begins as a look at how the YouTube channel and PLEM Academy workflow are being restructured. The explanation is that too much random activity on YouTube can disrupt the flow, so the focus is shifting more clearly toward the book project and the academy itself.
From there, the main subject becomes the book currently being written. The project is described as a team effort with multiple volumes developing at once, including work connected to physics, notation, and more basic mathematics. Each volume has a different role and is meant to reach students at different levels, depending on how deep they want to go into the subject.
The current book is still in a developing stage, with lessons being added as the work progresses. The speaker explains that little acronyms, comments, and structural notes are inserted throughout the writing as ideas arise. This means the book is not static. It is evolving in real time.
A major theme in this explanation is that even very basic looking topics can contain far more depth than students realize. Topics like number sets, equations, inequalities, limits, linear algebra notation, and transformations are all treated as opportunities to examine mathematics with a more advanced eye. At the same time, the work remains grounded in actual textbook questions and actual course structures.
The book is described as a collection of questions drawn from different cited textbooks, written in a way that helps students understand how notation and expression can shift from one source to another. That difference in notation often creates stress for students, even when the mathematics itself has not really changed. A major purpose of the project is to train students to see past that stress and understand the symbolic language more fluently.
Another important point is the level of detail involved in proper mathematical writing. The post explains that most students do not write enough on exams, do not cite enough, and do not think carefully enough about the structure of what they are putting on the page. The writing in these lessons may look long to a beginner, but the argument here is that it is actually just the right amount of precision.
The post also gives examples of the kinds of questions being worked on. Some are short and focused, while others grow into very long analyses, especially in subjects like differential equations, Laplace transforms, or linear algebra. These long questions are not treated as a problem. They are treated as normal examples of what real mathematical understanding often requires.
There is also a strong emphasis on review. Students do not need to attend every live session. Instead, they can look at the lesson afterward, check for mistakes, question whether notation or approximation signs are correct, and think carefully about every detail. That attention to detail is presented as a core part of scientific and mathematical maturity.
The post makes clear that this is not only about learning content. It is also about building professional skill. Students are encouraged to understand formatting tools, Microsoft Office workflows, typesetting systems, and the broader technical habits involved in putting together serious mathematical material. The work is described as a kind of apprenticeship in both mathematics and professional practice.
Another layer of the message is that participating in the book is an investment in oneself. The argument is that people who contribute to educational and technical work often do so as part of their own growth. The experience, the skills, the exposure to process, and the final credit are all part of that investment.
The speaker also connects this to business. Building the books, maintaining the sites, teaching the lessons, structuring the workflow, and handling technical systems are all part of running a real operation. Students are not only seeing how the math is written. They are seeing how a specialized technical business functions behind the scenes.
Overall, this post presents PLEM Academy as an active collaborative writing process rather than a passive library. The goal is to help students become sharper, more systematic, more employable, and more confident in reading and writing mathematics by taking part in the development of the work itself.
Closing Thought
This project is not about racing to a final answer. It is about learning how to see mathematics clearly enough that any good textbook begins to feel readable, structured, and manageable. That kind of ability takes time, but it also changes everything.

How’s it going everybody? Uh, so I’m just kind of restructuring the flow of uh the YouTube. I the YouTube I get carried away with YouTube and it I do too much on YouTube and it messes up the algorithm. And uh I like to have fun sometimes. Some of you guys, you’re not ready for that. But uh I want to show you this is the book we’re writing. Um it’s a team effort essentially. So at Plem Academy here, we’re right I’m writing these books here. This one this this is the first series of stuff I did. I’m in the process of adding things to the website. One lesson at a time. It takes a long time. But this is the this is the book that we’re writing right now. And we’re doing volume one, volume two, volume three in pieces. One of them’s about physics, one of them’s about notations, one of them’s about all the basic math. There are different levels of learning, different ways to look at it. It depends on you as an individual how deep you’re trying to go into math. But this one right here that we’re writing right now is um it’s a it’s in it’s it’s in a developing stage. I’m adding things to it as I go through it. I have little acronyms to let you guys know that if you’re in school that this is going to apply, this is going to cause issues. dot dot dot, stuff like that. I add those as I go along as they come to my head. Then we we’re here’s the list of the stuff we’ve done so far. Uh some of it’s not on the website yet. I’m just I’m I’m really busy right now, guys. I I have uh you know, I I have a book I have to I have to make a living going to book signing events at art shows all summer and winter. So, I’m I’m really swamped right now because I’m also simultaneously as I as I’m doing Plem Academy with you guys, I’m also doing my audio books and my fiction books here and it takes a long time to do all of this stuff and it’s it’s very stressful and when you’re self-employed, you don’t usually you don’t have a break. It’s hard to have a vacation. If you guys ever become self-employed, make it a point to take a day off each week and to schedule a vacation because you can get caught up in that real really bad. Um, so here’s some of the um here’s some titles that I I’m not sure if I’m going to keep those yet, but uh before there there’s a flow to this book. It’s supposed to guide you through like all the all the basics about math and all the advanced stuff that you’re going to it it’s like everything that’s in these books that I’m writing. It’s basically what you should all know with a math, physics, or engineering degree when you leave a bachelor’s and start a graduate level degree. It’s how you should be approaching math. Even the this looks this is very basic right here. This is very basic. Talking about a number set, it’s very basic, but there’s a lot of stuff going on. And so we we’re this is what we’re doing. We’re taking very basic stuff and we’re expanding on it with an advanced eye to see it across all the different textbooks. You see how this C this double stamp C, then you got this C, then this C, then this C. It depends on what book you’re in. This book is a collection of different questions from different textbooks that are all cited. I’ll come down. Here’s more. Here’s one of the basic ones. Equations and inequalities. We’re just taking the question here. We’re looking at it from multiple angles at a with a very advanced eye and we’re typing it out together. And then you guys are you’re either you’re either watching it after I do it or you’re reading the lit. You just you’re just engaging however you’re reading it. You’re like, “Hey, there’s a typo here. this shouldn’t look like this or something. And then and then I fix it. And uh that that’s how you get the credit in the books to have your name in the book. Uh so so this one’s starting this one’s we’re at about 80 pages now. As we get the ball rolling, it’ll it’ll accumulate pretty quick into a full entire book. That’s why I’m doing these things in volumes. Um but uh here here’s a more another more uh not too difficult. This is like middle of the road question doing the limits in in um calculus. And so I choose a question that kind of covers a lot of stuff when we do these like this this question here. I look at it and I’m like, “Okay, this is going to point out a lot of things that you guys miss.” And the flow, most of you guys are not writing your not writing your solutions correctly on exams. You’re you’re missing a ton of information and you’re not citing sources and that that causes a lot of issues with with your grading. You need to be precise and on point. That’s at most universities are like that. You’re working with a PhD. you’re working with somebody at my level of math, we do it correctly. We cite the sources. We verify everything. And um you you can shorthand sort site things. You don’t have to write the whole entire thing. It’s just you it’s just most of you are just like not writing hardly enough at all. It seems like I’m writing a lot when you’re looking at these solutions, but it’s once you start actually doing math, it’s really not that much writing. But for going forward the general flow that I’m doing now is this is the textbook that we’re citing. This is the question from that book. This is the question that we are working with. And then we go together and we we break it down piece by piece by piece to extract and locate all kinds of different stuff that clarify everything about the question. Most of you guys get a question like this and uh the question is to solve this uh this equation here. Most of you get a question like that and you’re just like plug it into chat GBT or just apply some quick formula and you get the answer and then you memorize it for the exam and then you have no idea how to do math at all. Like you’re like it I get it. I did it too. There’s a click factor and there’s a time of patience and devotion that comes. This question is the one we most recently worked on here. The lelass transformation. Look how long it is. This is it’s not even we’re not even finished with it yet, but it’s very long. It’s a standard question for any OD course. It’s very long. We made some mistakes on it. We went back through and we’re correcting things. And uh and then this doesn’t have the second half of it. We also took in the most recent session, we took this question and we went backwards and we showed that it that it does satisfy, but we’re still not finished with it. It’s very long. But so this but this is what the book looks like. This is what we’re doing. We’re just doing it one lesson at a time and it’s all about understanding the different notations from the different books, all the different textbooks, teaching you how to read all these different textbooks. I’m just pointing out all kinds of different notations in at the beginnings and then throughout the throughout the book I’m I’m showing you just a I’m just showing you a lot of stuff that it took me you know 15 years of toiling with math. Things like this will throw you guys off all the time when you see you see these notations indexed in superscript and subscript and there the symbols and then they change book to book. It’ll it has nothing to do with understanding math. It’s just a symbol that describes something. And a lot of you guys have um you get really stressed out when you see things like that. Like you’ll see a polomial here written as a vector and you’re like how the heck does that work? Well, that’s what I I do. I show you how that works that you rewrite it like this as the product of these two things and then you subscript with the set that it’s from the basis and then you can write that now as a vector. And how it works together. I call it the uh bubble. I call it a b the bubble technology. it creates this bubble that you like stretch out everything and then you can work everything within the bubble if you go through the you go through the lesson step by step. There’s a lot of stuff going on. This is linear algebra now. So that’s that’s what we’re doing. This is this is what the book looks like that we’re writing right now. If you guys are signed up for Flem Academy, just bear with me. I’m just putting everything together. I’m I’m making a I’m making a beautiful elegant flow and I’m just putting everything together and I’m also doing my other books as well. But this is this is what we’re doing together. I’m I’m making these lessons. You guys don’t have to join the live sessions. But what you what you do is you go and you look at the lesson after I’ve done it. So, here’s a lesson I did in physics. And you go and you look at this lesson after it’s done and you look and see if there’s a typo or something going on. You pay attention to things like this. Is this correct? Should I use an approximation here or should I use an equal sign? You know, because because you got the sigfigs and you and then you have the, you know, approximation that goes on beyond the sigfigs. Am I approximated to the sigfigs? Is it an approximation? These are things you need to think about because that may or may not be correct. And this is it goes really deep. You know, these tiny little things like that go really deep. And that’s what you got to pay attention to when you’re doing science like this. You got to pay attention to tiny tiny little details. Even this period here at the end, you know, it’s a sentence. We’re writing a sentence here. There’s a comma, there’s a period. It’s a sentence. This is a sentence. Therefore, delta t equals 1.02 nanconds. Period. It’s a whole sentence. It’s condensed stuff. And uh so, you know, it took me it took me like 15 years to be able to understand and learn and do all of this stuff. And um so I’m just I just trying to find a unique way to capitalize on my skills while helping people because you guys will have a much better time in college if you can see math like like this. If you can see what’s really happening with it that it’s very systematic. It’s a very it’s a very instructure. It’s just instructions, step-by-step instructions. Anyways, but uh this is what the book looks like. Volume one that we’re doing right now. Volume two is all pre-calculus questions. I’m going through a little bit, but we’re going to focus mo mostly on volume one as a team right now. It’s uh it’s a work in progress, but you guys are going to take part in writing this. You’re going to be part of the team. I encourage you if you’ve signed up to go and start interacting on the uh you go to the research and go to the active problems and come here and take a look at them and and uh see see if there’s anything wrong or you have suggestions uh blah blah blah all that stuff. There’s no comment on here unless that’s a comment. Now, you also get with Pllem Academy, I give you your own website so you can watch how I do these things behind the scenes a little bit. And sometimes comments have to be approved if you have a certain settings. And no, there’s just there’s just the practice comments I put on there. I had uh I had somebody else had left some comments, but that was on the old website. I separated these websites as all. So this website is just it’s meant for the people that are part of PLM Academy doing the research stuff working together. When these books are published and all that, if you’ve purchased the lifetime access, you’ll get these books, okay? That I’ll I’ll have them added to probably the STEM major or my website. So the the the research position is just for, you know, it’s for people that are interacting. But if you have if you have paid for the lifetime access, just sign up here at author uh at it’s it’s my fourth wall shop. It’s also the the stemm.com. I got about a thousand lessons there. So, if you’re looking for my old podcast and lessons, they’re all there. I’ll be making a lot of new stuff on YouTube. I’m just I’m just I’m just focusing on the Plemacademy side with you guys because um it’s a business that I think that a lot of people would really appreciate it if you can understand what we’re doing here. We’re writing a book together. Like, we are engaging together. It’s a lot of work for me to do it and it’s not a it’s not a high demand product. So, school stuff is usually more expensive because less people are buying it. It’s not mass-produced. You guys should understand that stuff, too. So, but uh I love doing this stuff and I like working with you guys and straightening it all out. But here’s some more things like on notation with like integration and stuff. This is just what the book looks like. And if you guys are looking for some old my older lessons for writing the uh first the first set, you can get those here. You can get a lifetime access thing and um get access to all these videos and everything. And uh I’ve got some t-shirts on here. I’ve got a bunch of stuff on this website, but I kind of walked away from it because they I can’t get it to link up with YouTube anymore. They don’t want to they don’t want to fix it. But uh it’s still there. You guys still have access to it. And if you have if you want my fiction, you get my fiction, too. Just make sure that you’re mature enough to read it because a lot of it’s pretty intense stuff. I got to put warning labels on these books for people. Some of them are gentle and some are not. But uh this is this is what the the volume one book looks like. This is this is where we’re at right now. I’m showing you guys how to build algorithms and um how to think like an an algorithm writer, a mathematician. A ma a mathematician breaks this breaks it down into components and it pieces together. Once you guys get I call it the eye of the integral. Like once once it clicks in your head, it’s it’s not it’s no longer a challenge to do math. It’s just kind of tedious. That’s what you want before you leave college. You want to be able to take pretty much any textbook and just go to a problem in it and solve it without having read the the book. For the most part, you’re just you’re developing the skills of going into these books and extracting thems.
So, this is a lot of work to do this. It is not fast. It’s tedious. And you guys, it’s it’s meant for you to be part of something so that you have something to do in free time that engages your that activates it. It it it focuses on skills for your resume. You need you need to know how to use Microsoft Office tools. You also need to know how to use Typeset and Latte. You also need to know that this is Latte. I’ve showed you guys that before. The right up here, you have the option of choosing Latte. It’s this is all latte code. It’s the same thing. It just auto parses. Typing up stuff like this in latte would be very tedious. Doing it in Microsoft Word is much faster and more efficient. But you should know both. Use both. I just I know how to use both. Expert. But I would not use Latte because it would take me to do what I to type up what I’m typing here would take me forever. It’d be very long and it wouldn’t autopar. So you guys wouldn’t be able to see it on the videos. But uh anyways, but this is what the book looks like. And so those of you who are wondering what what is what are we doing with Plym Academy, we’re writing a whole book together and you’re going to get credit for the book. And I know some of you might be like, why would I pay to get take part in writing a book? All those people that you see at the beginning of a textbook that contributed to writing the textbook, those people all paid to go to college and they did that research for free so that they could they invested in themselves. It’s an investment. you’re investing in yourself. The knowledge that you’ll gain will give you an edge in the competition when you fill out when you’re applying for jobs. They’re going to want people that know how to use all these tools because this is how you do a business. I’m running a business. I’m effectively showing you how to run a business while I’m show while I’m doing this business, too. Showing you guys how to build websites, showing you guys all these different little things. Maybe you might want to know how to form an LLC or a corporation. I know how to do all that stuff. You’re going to need to know that stuff, too. Even if you’re an engineer, you’re you’re going to be part of a business. You’re going to need to know all of that stuff. So, but we’re we’re writing a book together. It’s a lot of work. This is not easy, okay? And not many people on the planet can write a book like this, to write math print like this and a whole book and do it live. You you know how skilled you have to be to do that. I’m trying to transfer that skill to you guys. That’s what you’re paying for. You know, it’s like I’m the sensei. you are my student and I am going to advance you and um whatever. But that’s the that’s the gist. This is the book. That’s a look inside the book or that we’re writing right now. And uh you can take part in the writing of it. I we do we do a lesson each week and then I put it on the website. You guys review it and you type it up the way I showed you how to type it up with chatbt rewriting it into the latte code for you to put it on the website and then you get credit in the book if you want to take part in it. But this is what we’re And I just wanted to show you guys what we’re doing. And if you want my old videos, you can find them here at this. Just go to the stem.com. The stem.com. All right. Have Have yourselves a lovely day, kids. I’ll see you when I see you.
